Tiwanaku / Tiahuanaco

One of the oldest civilizations that existed on Earth has lived and developed in the Tiahuanaco ( Tiwanaku) region of Bolivia. The mysterious civilization, supposedly living about 14,000 years ago, has left behind an entire archaeological complex that has been thoroughly researched by scholars.

The mysterious culture breathed the air of the mountain heights, carrying its existence at about 4,000 meters above sea level, and the architectural jewels made by real masters raise many questions about the development of this mysterious people. Legends of Aymara natives say that Tiwanaku was built in one night by a race of giants who lived long before the Incas and was destroyed by the flood. Tiahuanaco/Tiwanaku – perhaps the oldest settlement in the world – located on the South-East shore of Lake Titicaca, Bolivia, is – in the opinion of some explorers of these places – the purest cultural manifestation in South America that has emerged more than 12,000 years ago.

As a prominent symbol – Viracocha – in the prehistoric mythology, the “creator” descended from somewhere in the heavens with the giants – is today called Creator of the Earth and elevating the Sun and Moon into the sky, modelling human and animal faces from clay and life-giving on them at Tiahuanaco. If you have the impression that the great pyramid in Egypt is a technological wonder, expect to see what artists and engineers were doing at Tiwanaku.

This culture has flourished at an altitude of 3900 meters, in an area where the air is very low in oxygen. They have somehow managed to move stones with weights up to 200 tons and have invented modular building techniques that still today are high-performance technology.

The Gate of the Sun

The most famous object in the archaeological site of Tiwanaku / Tiahuanaco is the Sun Gate.

This structure has been described as a calendar that holds almost as long as it is known to exist; that is why the Sun Gate was also called the Calendar Gate.

This calendar sculpture, although without any doubt indicating a “solar year” cannot be included in the solar year as we are currently sharing.

The calendar has only 290 days, divided into 12 “decimals” of 24 days each plus two intercalated days. This controversial calendar has initiated two theories that try to explain it to. The first one claims that the year on Earth was somewhat different 14,000 years ago, and the other one assumes that this calendar comes from another planet, the reason why it is so different from the current one. The extraterrestrial connections were first suggested by Eric von Daniken and were perpetuated by discoveries that demonstrate advanced knowledge that Tiahuanacan engineers seem to have held thousands of years before other cultures. This ancient “portal” has a weight of about 10 tons, a height of 3 meters and a width of another 4 meters. Some researchers claim it would have been built somewhere about 15,000 years ago.

Most experts agree that this gate was created from a single block of stone and is full of mystical symbols similar to those found in ancient Mesopotamia, a region thousands of miles away. According to the research, the gate is a presentation of the same winged creatures we see in ancient Mesopotamia. There are 32 effectors with human faces and 16 with condor heads. The Gate of the Sun was never finished, archaeologists finding more unfinished figures as if the sculptors had made them rushed, driven or scared by someone or something.

A thorough analysis of the Tiwanaku civilization reflects the astronomy and physical skill because these mysterious people knew that Earth was a globe and revolved around its axis and could accurately calculate any eclipse of the Moon or the Sun even if it was visible from the other side of the planet.

Scientists have discovered that the mysterious people were also mathematically advanced, dividing a circle in 264 degrees (unlike the Babylonians who divided it into 360 degrees), being able to calculate the exact value of the pi. Starting from these rules, they rested to build an entire city at a height of 4000 meters above sea level. The fact that civilization has emerged in such a hostile place and has managed to develop unprecedentedly is a big question mark.

  • How did they manage to reach such a level of intelligence?
  • What technology did they use and why did this civilization in Tiahuanaco disappear?

These questions remain unanswered, at least for the moment.

Tiwanaku Mysterious Modular Blocks

The fact that the extraordinary culture of Tiahuanaco seems to be fully developed at this high altitude in an arid area is a real mystery. It seems that near the beginning of civilization they used construction techniques such as modular blocks. Giant blocks were cut from a single rock and made to match each other with extraordinary precision and at the same time having an artistic style.

These techniques have been developed by modern builders in the last century. Massive blocks are extremely stable, resisting both the passage of time and earthquakes. But have they been made, transported and positively positioned by hand? The construction of the civilization of Tiwanaku is similar to ours, and the technique used was developed by the modern man in the middle of the last century. The buildings were resistant to very large earthquakes and the connections between perfect stone cubes. In the days when the mysterious civilization dominated the area, Lake Titicaca was much larger and the town itself. The cold waters of Lake Titicaca have long since retreated.

In the immediate vicinity of the archaeological site, there is an impressive structure that has collapsed. Initially, the building was built from a huge stone block weighing about 450 tons, equivalent to 200 cars. Near the site, in the place called Puma Punku, there is a building that is now collapsed, built of four massive parts. One of the blocks with which this dyke was built was made of a block of stone weighing about 440 tons (equivalent to nearly 200 cars).

Several other blocks, weighing between 100 and 150 tons. The career for these gigantic blocks lies on the west bank of Lake Titicaca, about 16 km away. There is no technology known throughout the ancient world to transport these blocks of such weight and size. The Andean people in 500 AD. with his simple red boats, he certainly did not move them. Even today, with all the gains in engineering and mathematics, we could not have built such a structure

Modular block technology allows them to be produced in the site and assembled in a variety of configurations. The technique that was discovered at Tiahuanaco seems to be fully developed, with no previous proof of any experiments.

  • Where did the engineers of that era get the ideas or experience?
  • Why is this the only modular example of the past?

These are just a few of the many questions you will have to answer about this remarkable site.

How did they feed?

Archaeologists estimate that around 100,000 people lived in the area. This raises other questions about the food that these people need, considering that the area is arid with temperatures that fall below zero degrees at night. An impressive discovery was made of the plane, several irrigation canisters, in the shape of a labyrinth, explaining the origin of the mystery of mysterious civilization. Thus, water could be provided for potato and cereal crops grown in the area.

The plan was very ingenious, several water-filled canals surrounded the plants, so the water was warming up during the day, and when it was cold, a dense fog formed to help the plants not freeze, and all the while and their irrigation. The religion of the people orbits around the cult of the Sun and the god Viracocha. Legend has it that the god Viracocha created the world right next to Lake Titicaca. After a great flood, he descended from heaven and created, on arid land, plants, animals, and even man. He called four rulers and raised the city of Tiwanaku.

In Kon Tiki Illa Viracocha (to the right in the picture) were embodied the beliefs about the god Condor, the god Sun, Pirua god Puma, the Jivaro snake, animistic cults of water, air, earth.

In ancient times, when it was the only night, from the lake, in the Collasuyo province.

Viracocha Con Ticci arrived with his men. He stopped in the village of Tiahuanaco, where he made the Sun, the Moon, and the stars.

When I asked the Indians how he looked, they told me he was a tall white man dressed in a white hooded tunic.

When I asked him how he was called, and they told me that he was called “Con Ticci Viracocha Pachaya – Chacnic, which in their language means” God – the Creator of the World “

Viracocha, Tiwanaku
Viracocha was considered the ancestor, forefather of all people and the Creator of the world.

It seems that there was a civilization before the flood much more advanced (at least technologically) than the Incas, its traces losing itself with the rise of lake level and the shadow of time. That would mean giving us the first civilization for 10,000 years ago, maybe more, that would make the history of civilizations redundant

Who are these mysterious men of Northern origin (after appearance) who come, educate themselves, like civilized heroes, then leave and are apotheosis? As for the symbols, they can make a parallel with the scalar motif, the serpent with the Australian mythologies, the Mayan, the Aztecs, the Polynesian, etc. Also solar and moon motifs are often found. Have they developed independently of each other or have they been transmitted?

Peruvian legends also speak of a flood. Along with the flood of Noah and the Babylonian Utnapishtim of the Gilgamesh Epic, we can also remember the Sumerian Zisudra, Persian Jima, Indian Manu, Mayan CoxCox, Colombian Bochica, Algonquin Nanabozu, Indian Coyote, Greeks Deucalion and Pyrrha, Chinese Noah Kuen or the Polynesian Tangalao. So there surely was a universal dilution. Such scenarios exist in the mythologies of the Hopi Indians, the Kalevala epic poem in the north, the Chilam Balam and Popol Vuh books, or the Aztec calendar icons.

Unfortunately, we still have no data available to affirm/refute the moment when the civilization in Tiwanaku / Teotihuacan peaked or when it was established. Not how she evolved and to whom she owes her sudden extinction.
